Immigration to Canada by British Columbia

In the most recent draw for British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) which was held on the 15th of September 2016, 477 candidates, in total, were issued with Invitations to Apply for Canadian Immigration by the British Columbia Province. More than half of the ITAs were given to International Graduates while the others were shared among skilled, semi-skilled and entry level workers.

Candidates who had earlier registered and had an account with the BC PNP Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS), a program which was just introduced early in 2016, were the only ones who were qualified to receive ITAs in this draw. The SIRS platform is a much flexible point based system which allows the province to select the candidates that qualify for nomination based on their quality.

The point based system of the SIRS also allows candidates to get scores based on the supplied information during registration. As such, the candidates overall score from the points will determine whether such a candidate will qualify for an ITA or not. A couple of other BC PNP categories which are processed under the SIRS system are managed the same way as the Express Entry Immigration Selection System. There are some other applications which are processed outside this system and are recognized as ‘base categories’. The ones processed within the Express Entry System is recognized as ‘enhanced categories’.
